A Orientation and Mobility (O&M) specialist provides training that enables a person who is visually impaired to learn to travel safely and independently. This training is key to regaining confidence, self-respect, and restored freedom. With O&M, the consumer no longer has to be solely dependent on family, friends, and others. Learning to travel safely as a visually impaired person is a fundamental component of independence, enabling individuals with sight loss to overcome barriers to travel. Instruction is specific to the goals of each individual. Sun lens evaluations and environmental assessments are made.
