One of our main goals is to help ensure that people from our community don’t need to use any of our other services. We do this by working to prevent them from becoming one of our clients in the first place. To accomplish this, we offer a wide variety of free Prevention of Blindness & Eye Safety programs.
These include…
- Public Education & Awareness: A wide variety of vision-related educational and awareness programs are available to groups, clubs and organizations.
- Macular Degeneration, Distance and/or Near Visual Acuity, Depth Perception & Color Vision Screenings: These screenings are conducted throughout the community; usually at health fairs, senior centers and adult living communities. The target group is the at-risk, elderly population. Referrals are made to eye care professionals as needed.
- Eyeglasses Cleaning, Adjustment and Repairs: Eyeglass cleanings, adjustments and minor repairs are offered at senior centers, residential facilities, and local health fairs.
- Elementary Eye Safety Awareness: CBVI provides an in-school presentation, along with an educational coloring book aimed at teaching eye safety to youngsters.
- Children’s Screenings: Preschool and Kindergarten children are screened for early detection of Amblyopia and other abnormalities. Amblyopia is also known as “lazy eye” and often goes undetected. Screenings are provided at no cost to schools throughout the service area.
